Open playgrounds at municipal nursery schools too

The municipal service to open up school playgrounds to neighbourhoods is being expanded from 6 November 2021, with the addition of playgrounds at four municipal nursery schools in the city. The facilities will be opened up for public use by children up to the age of six, who must be accompanied by their families or a trusted adult.

The nursery schools joining the municipal open playgrounds programme this year are: EBM La Mar (district of Ciutat Vella), EBM Gràcia (district of Gràcia), EBM Ralet (district of Nou Barris) and EBM Cargol (district of Horta-Guinardó). The playgrounds will all be open on Saturdays, from 10 am to 1 pm.

More playing to make neighbourhoods more educational

The inclusion of the playgrounds at the nursery schools means Barcelona now has 57 outdoor spaces around publicly owned schools in the city’s ten districts, offering service during the mornings and afternoons. As the school year goes on, up to ten more school playgrounds may be added.

To find out which playgrounds are open and check dates and times, go to the website “School Playgrounds Open to the Neighbourhoods”, on the City Council’s Education website.

The open school playground programme seeks to boost free-time play opportunities for youngsters and their families, and to promote the use of education centres as neighbourhood facilities outside of school hours, at weekends and during school holidays. These spaces foster attitudes of respect, cooperation, effort and responsibility among users, with the programme opening schools up and making the neighbourhood more educational.

The municipal initiative “School Playgrounds Open to the Neighbourhoods” enjoys the collaboration of the Barcelona Education Consortium, all the city’s districts and various social and educational organisations in the city.
