The bike lane in the central section of Av. Diagonal opens

The new section of the bike lane in Av. Diagonal runs between Passeig de Gràcia and Passeig de Sant Joan and has been shifted from the pavement onto the road surface, making it safer and more practical for cyclists and pedestrians alike. The new section also keeps areas around the bus-stops in this section clear of bicycles.

The new section is 900 metres long and has two segregated one-way bike lanes on the road surfaces in both side lanes. It also includes advanced spaces for bikes in front of pedestrian crossings and bike parking facilities. As it passes along the side nearest the sea in Plaça del Cinc d’Oros, the new lane connects the far side nearest the Llobregat with the far side nearest the Besòs.

The project also enabled the current bike lane in Roger de Llúria to be extended as far as Còrsega and connections in this area to be increased, with signs indicating various cycling paths, in coexistence with other vehicles: from Carrer de Santa Tecla to Carrer de Pau Claris, from Carrer de Roger de Llúria to Carrer de Sant Agusti and the side lane nearest the mountain in Av. Diagonal, between Pau Claris and Passeig de Gràcia.

Reaching 272 kilometres in 2023

The city’s cycling network continues to grow with the goal of rising from 240 kilometres to 272 kilometres in 2023, and with improvements to shift lanes from pavements onto road surfaces, favouring the permeability of the network and widening lanes. In parallel to this, more bike parking is also being added in the city’s ten districts.
