Work gets under way at the Colònia Castells

Work begins to transform the former Colònia Castells industrial site into a large park of 10,000 square metres, with health and leisure areas to fill the space with community life. This important industrial site in the district of Les Corts is set to become a green lung for local residents in the first quarter of 2023.

Covering an area of 9,600 square metres, the park will have:

  • A central square
  • Allotments
  • A children’s play area with soft paving
  • A health circuit
  • An area with elements for the elderly
  • Large parterres with another 180 trees
  • LED lighting with lamp posts of different heights

Around 200 local people took part in the design of the future park through a participatory process encouraging them to choose the greenery for it. Work gets under way on Monday, 27 June, and should be completed in February 2023.

Eleven houses at the old Colònia Castells industrial colony are to be conserved, with local uses to be decided on once they are renovated. The transformation project for the Colònia Castells includes rehousing or compensating the people who live there.

Located between the streets of Entença, Taquígraf Serra, Equador and Montnegre, this industrial space is a historical point of reference in Les Corts. The complex started operating in 1923 as a factory producing varnish and patent leather and closed down at the beginning of this century.
