The Mobile World Congress (MWC) has been held in Barcelona since 2006, with the exception of this year, as the event had to be cancelled due to Covid-19. The congress brings together 2,400 companies and over 100,000 visitors from all over the world. The impact of the congress on the local economy is around 500 million euros.

Following the suspension of this year’s event because of Covid-19, an agreement was reached to extend the contract by a further year, until 2024.

New members of the trust

The trust is made up of representatives from Barcelona City Council, Fira de Barcelona, GSMA, the Ministry for Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, the Government of Catalonia, Telefónica, Vodafone, Orange, Damm and CaixaBank.

Today’s session included two new members for the first time: the Spanish government’s Third Vice-president and Minister for Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, and the Secretary of State for Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence, Carme Artigas.
