Special emphasis will be placed on public policies to boost women’s, junior, senior and international talent, with the collaboration of various public and private bodies from the city.

The short and medium-term shock measures in the plan include the creation of the Economic Response Coordination Centre (CECORE), as well as a series of actions to improve the city’s economic competitiveness in the next few years.

Main areas of the plan

More technology training. The training capacity of Barcelona Activa’s free web programming school, the IT Academy, is to be tripled, enabling it to train over 3,000 people in the next five years. This will help cover vacancies in the technology sector, the only one generating quality employment in the city. In the last two years, over 150 people who trained at the academy have found work, representing an insertion rate of 76% and with higher average salaries than the other sectors.

The Cibernàrium returns to Nou Barris. In 2021, Barcelona Activa’s technology dissemination and training service is to relocate to the district of Nou Barris, where it started out twenty years ago, to increase its space and the scope of its services. The idea is to bridge the digital divide and take advantage of the opportunities offered by the digital transformation. The Cibernàrium, in collaboration with the private sector, provides digital skills training to over 15,000 people.

Digital recycling. Another key element will be flexibility and the adaptation to the changing conditions of the labour market by recycling professionals from other sectors to work in the digital sphere.
