Barcelona Activa opts for direct work contracts with companies

Barcelona Activa’s direct contract programmes are designed to foster employment and help companies take on staff. The programmes have enabled over 1,500 people to find work in 2022, mainly thanks to recruitment days. The over-45s made up the largest group of people to gain employment, with a third of contracts permanent.

Over 200 companies took part in Marketplaces de Talent, the recruitment days organised by  Barcelona Activa. The format for these sessions means the first contact between candidate and company is the job interview, with applicants supported by the agency. Companies which have taken on staff include El Corte Inglés, Carrefour, Decathlon, Sorigué, Starbucks, Costa Cruceros, Leroy Merlin, Tibidabo-BSM and QuironSalud.

In terms of the volume of people gaining employment, the most notable recruitment events in 2022 were within the context of the Carrefour Job Fair, where 200 people found work. A further 160 work contracts were secured with the companies Sorigué, Urbaser, FCC Medio Ambiente and Valoriza, to cover municipal waste collection services and cleaning in public spaces.

The over-45s accounted for the most work contracts gained, while women represented 47% of the overall total. Half of those contracted have secondary education qualifications and a third of new work contracts were permanent.

Besides these recruitment sessions, the Barcelona Activa job pool has generated more work contracts, including 230 through work placement agreements. The Crea Feina Plus programme also provided 270 jobs this year for people at risk of social exclusion or long-term unemployed.
