The Punt de Llibre award recognises students’ best illustrations about commerce

After students from 24 schools submitted over 500 entries, the best 14 works received awards in seven categories. The illustrations will be printed on 200,000 bookmarks and distributed on Sant Jordi’s Day at associations, shopping hubs, florists’ and bakers’ guilds all around the city.

This initiative seeks to capture the gaze of children and young people, inviting them to use the language of visual arts to set out their vision of neighbourhood commerce in the city. It thus recognises students’ point of view about the city and about local commerce, an essential element for them.

A programme with over 40,000 students in 16 years

The organisation of the event and the awards fall within the “Commerce and Schools” programme, the goal of which is to promote knowledge of the social, cultural and historical environment among students. This is done through neighbourhood commerce, in a process which also educates them in active, critical and responsible consumption through various activities.

The current school year has seen the programme regain its face-to-face format after the pandemic forced the previous editions to go online, with 3,920 students from all year groups at 68 schools and activities at 41 commercial establishments. Over the 16 years it has been running, the teaching programme has reached over 43,000 students at 160 schools, plus 60 local shops and businesses in Barcelona.
