Tourist tax to be used to boost cultural and creative projects

The Government Commission has approved the use of 800,000 euros from the revenue raised by the tax on overnight stays in tourist accommodation (IEET) to help fund the campaign to promote tourism in the city, the Pride 2020 project, the Grec Festival and La Mercè. The idea is to foster quality international tourism linked to the cultural sphere and the distribution of tourism so that people revisit the city.

The projects funded aim to help position the city as a safe destination and boost activities aimed at innovation, sustainability, promotion abroad and local consumption.

  • Campaign to promote tourism (200,000 euros): to promote the local consumption of products usually only consumed by visitors, with different strategies, markets and products for each stage.
  • Pride 2020 project (100,000 euros): to foster this event’s contribution to positioning the city among the main LGBTI tourist destinations, and as a commitment to giving greater visibility to this group’s rights.
  • Barcelona Grec Festival (250,000 euros) and La Mercè (250,000 euros): to support and maintain an attractive and international cultural agenda despite the health crisis.

This investment package comes in addition to the one approved last week for the value of 2.97 million euros for projects to support the business network, back sustainability and the promotion of the city and incentivise local consumption.
