Barcelona first to adopt the 112 number
As from the end of January, anybody wishing to report an incident in the city will have to use the 112 emergency phone number. A collaboration agreement has been signed for the technological integration of the City Council’s emergency services into those of the Catalonia Emergency Call Service and Management Centre.
The agreement means Barcelona is the first city to adopt the 112 service and unify emergency calls currently received by the number for the City Police (092) and the Fire Service (080) into one number. The 112 service will also handle information on reports made to the corresponding emergency services in the city.
New emergency call handling model
The agreement is the starting point for a new call handling model which updates and streamlines assistance to offer people a more effective service, able to provide better assistance when handling incidents and emergencies in the city.
