New centre for the elderly in Trinitat Vella

The opening of the new centre for the elderly sees the district of Sant Andreu culminate an initiative which began with the Trinitat Vella Neighbourhood Plan at the end of 2017. The goal was a community and leisure space which would foster health habits and social welfare among the elderly. Located at Carretera de Ribes, 85-87, the facility offers 370 square metres of floor space and required an investment of 1.9 million euros.

The centre offers a broad programme of activities to foster active and healthy ageing, such as visual arts workshops, cultural outings, choral singing, IT courses, film forums, celebrations and dances. In conjunction with municipal services and local organisations, the centre will also be involved in detecting unwanted loneliness among users, with a relational space and meeting point to facilitate discussions in small groups.

The new facility of 370 square metres also features an information point, a facilitation space, a painting classroom, an activity room, a multi-purpose hall and a cafeteria.

The centre seeks to stimulate participation by senior citizens in the neighbourhood and collaborate closely with the rest of the services in the area, such as the Trinitat Vella community centre, the José Barbero library, the future Porta Trinitat facility and local entities and organisations.

The Neighbourhood Plan and the District of Sant Andreu are organising two open days at the centre, on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 July, mornings and afternoons. Anybody wishing to attend simply needs to register here or call 937 077 060 or 626 046 439 (10 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 7.30 pm).
