What’s involved when the under-14s go outside?

Children under the age of 14 have been allowed to go out since 26 April.

Children under 14 can go out outside once a day, between 9 am and 9 pm, to walk, play and get exercise. As from 2 May, the times are from 12 noon to 7 pm.

What does going outside involve?

  • Children can go up to one kilometre from their home.
  • They must be accompanied by an adult.
  • An adult may accompany up to three children.
  • Children can go outside, play with toys, balls, bicycles and scooters.
  • Access is not permitted to play areas, which remain closed.

What precautions should be taken?

  • A distance of at least one metre must be maintained with all other people who are not part of the same family unit.
  • The use of masks is not mandatory, although it is recommended in busier areas. Children under the age of three do not need to wear masks.
  • People must wash their hands after going out.
