Barcelona again becomes one of the international venues for the Ars Electronica festival
This is the second year running that Barcelona is one of the main international venues for Ars Electronica, the most important festival in the world devoted to connections between art, tech and society, which is holding its 42nd edition in Linz and nearly a hundred other cities around the world. Having revamped its format in 2020 based on the particular characteristics of the digital world, the festival has successfully launched a hybrid virtual and on-site format, in multiple locations around the world and based around a network of ‘Gardens’.
These gardens are the festival’s international venues and take their name from the spiritual home of the Ars Electronica in Linz, Kepler’s Garden, at the Johannes Kepler University. This is the second year that Barcelona has been one of the event’s high profile gardens, again demonstrating the multi-faceted, heterogeneous and interconnected character of its community, with institutions, universities and public and private art centres combining in a cross-cutting network for the transmission of knowledge.
Exhibition at the Canòdrom
The exhibition ‘Ars Electronica Garden Barcelona’ is on from 8 to 12 September at the Canòdrom Digital and Democratic Innovation Centre (C/ Concepció Arenal, 165), from 11 am to 8.30 pm. Admission is free and bookings are not required.
The exhibition programme has been developed from a long-term cross-disciplinary collaboration process by arts centres, universities, science and tech centres and citizen labs, leading to five artistic research and production grants awarded through an open and collective selection process.

Exhibition and activities at the Espronceda Institute of Art & Culture
The festival has a second venue at the Espronceda Institute of Art & Culture (C/ Espronceda 326), also in the district of Sant Andreu. The centre is offering the exhibition ‘Being corporeal again’, which explores new digital formats and generates more artistic, sustainable and inclusive forms of coexistence. At the same time, the venue is organising various virtual debates.

Besides the Canòdrom and the Espornceda, the Ars Electronica Gardem is being promoted by the Institut Ramon Llull, the Hac Te – Hub d’Art, the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, HANGAR, NewArtFoundation, .BEEP {collection;},, and La Caldera.
