Barcelona Medals of Honour 2025
As ever, and every year since 1997, the City Council gives some of its most special awards: the City Medals of Honour. They recognise the exemplary trajectories of individuals and organisations and their contribution to the city’s civic values.
Medals for projecting the city, proposed by municipal groups
- Fermí Puig (posthumously): recognising his work for Catalan cuisine, its dignification as living cultural heritage, and his educational spirit, always characterised by his great generosity.
- Òscar Muñoz (posthumously): for his legacy in the world of journalism, as a role model for good practice and his valuable contribution to local information, consolidating it as an essential space for the media.
- Rafel Jordana: for his trajectory at the head of the Bodega d’en Rafel, representing an outstanding contribution to Barcelona’s social, cultural and gastronomic heritage, specifically in the neighbourhood of Sant Antoni.
- Montserrat Úbeda (posthumously): for her proactive work at the head of the Ona bookshop and her tireless defence of books, the Catalan language and books as spaces of culture, knowledge and identity.
- Community of Poor Clare nuns at the Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes: for their contribution to the city of Barcelona of nearly 700 years, as a spiritual cornerstone of the monastery.
Medals proposed by the district councils
Ciutat Vella
- Escola Vedruna Àngels, on its 150th anniversary, for its social, historical and educational commitment to the neighbourhood of El Raval.
- Maite Roca, a key figure in the social and cultural community of El Raval, for her life trajectory committed to the community, historical memory and participatory traditional culture.
L’Eixample
- Pepa Serra, for her contribution to local participation, particularly in children’s well-being initiatives and the defence of women’s rights.
- Esbart Gaudí, on their 75th anniversary, for their devotion to regaining and promoting traditional Catalan folkloric dance.
Sants-Montjuïc
- Diego García, for his commitment to the community in the neighbourhood of La Marina and his devotion to social cohesion.
- Associació de Veïns Badal-Brasil-Bordeta, for their trajectory in local struggle, the recovery of neighbourhood heritage and communal uses.
Les Corts
- ADECO Catalunya, for their work in favour of people at risk of exclusion, children and families, as a leading organisation in social action.
- Grup Mou-te Les Corts, for their promotion of women’s physical and emotional health through movement and community activity.
Sarrià – Sant Gervasi
- Jose Luis Lorente, for his trajectory in the local struggle for the development of facilities in the mountain neighbourhoods, particularly El Rectoret.
- Associació Veïnal Sant Gervasi – la Bonanova, on their 50th anniversary, for their work to improve conditions and coexistence for local people.
Gràcia
- Club Bàsquet Coll, for their exemplary trajectory and commitment to civic values and the communal development of the neighbourhood of El Coll.
- Elvira Altés, a role model in communication, teaching and research, with a firm commitment to the defence of women’s rights.
Horta-Guinardó
- Xarxa de Dones Cosidores, for their comprehensive work in favour of women, through a community and labour insertion space.
- Antonio Novalbos, for his contribution to public participation in the neighbourhood of El Carmel, particularly in favour of people with disabilities.
Nou Barris
- Sandor Martín, for his career as a boxer, characterised by effort and self-improvement, which has projected the name of Nou Barris internationally.
- Alberto Vila, for his work at the Institut Tecnològic de Barcelona, promoting vocational training and bringing technology to the neighbourhoods, particularly Trinitat Nova.
Sant Andreu
- Centre d’Estudis Ignasi Iglésias, for being a cornerstone of the district’s historical memory and identity.
- Antònia Luengo, for her trajectory in contemporary music and for affirming women’s role in this sphere.
Sant Martí
- Mercedes Alvira, for her commitment to social and community work, contributing to a more egalitarian and cohesive city.
- Comissió Memòria i Gènere, for their work giving visibility to historical memory and women in public space.
