An act of homage was held this morning in recognition of the officer Juan Miguel Gervilla, killed by the ETA terrorist group while he was directing traffic twenty years ago today, on 20 December 2000.

This year’s ceremony was more special as from now on the district of Les Corts has a new street plaque, with the former Carrer de l’Institut Frenopàtic (located between Gran Via de Carles III and Carrer de les Corts) now becoming Carrer de Juan Miguel Gervilla Valladolid. The street name is not the only tribute the city has paid to the officer, as since 2010 the Les Corts City Police station has borne the name Lluch – Gervilla.

Officer Gervilla joined the City Police on 1 May 1986. He was always attached to the Les Corts Territorial Unit, except for a period from 17 June 1991 to 2 March 1994, when he served with the Eixample Territorial Unit.

His role with the Les Corts Territorial Unit consisted of traffic regulation in the Diagonal area in the district of Les Corts. During his career he was congratulated by the head of his division and recognised on two occasions by the head of his unit.
