Barcelona joins in with a new edition of European Mobility Week
Some fifty organisations and facilities will be organising activities based around sustainable mobility during European Mobility Week, which is being held from 16 to 22 September under the concept of “Mobility for all”. The main aim is to call for universal access to public transport, with the slogan “Combine and get around!”, encouraging people to combine different types of transport to favour sustainability and greater flexibility. Public transport open days are also being held from 12 to 14 September, with 18 different activities and more than 2,800 places available, organised in collaboration with the city’s main transport operators.
Barcelona is joining in with a new edition of European Mobility Week from 16 to 22 September, with a wide range of activities inviting people to get first-hand knowledge of services and infrastructures that make urban mobility possible.
This year’s event is based around “Mobility for all”, calling for universal access to public transport and the prevention of transport poverty. The initiative emphasises the need to do away with the physical, economic and social barriers that hinder access to mobility, and to promote inclusive transport for all. The slogan “Combine and get around!” complements this goal by promoting the combination of public transport, cycling walking and other sustainable solutions.
During the week there will be activities for everybody, young and old, in all city districts. Examples include workshops and activities on environmental health, organised by Grup ECOS, on 18 September; the Barcelona transport race, organised by the Associació per a la Promoció del Transport Públic (PTP), on 16 September; the sustainable mobility conference, in the neighbourhood of Les Corts, organised by the Centre Cívic Joan Oliver “Pere Quart”, on 16 September; the recreational activities linked to sustainable mobility, organised by the Escola Nou Patufet, on 19 September, and the public transport exhibitions organised by the Biblioteca Bon Pastor – Josefina Castellví all through the week.

Open days for mobility and transport services
The traditional public transport open days are being held over the weekend of 12 to 14 September, with 18 different activities and over 2,800 places available, organised in collaboration with the city’s main transport operators. These free activities allow people to discover places which are not usually open to the public, with guided tours, demonstrations and immersive experiences.
An important new aspect of this edition is the increase in the number of tours, thanks to the involvement of Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), which is opening various facilities to mark the centenary of the metro system. Notable activities include a tour of the Mercat Nou subcentral power station, the Santa Eulàlia workshop, the remains of the staircase at the Urquinaona station, the Metro Control Centre and the metro driving simulators.
Other activities include guided tours of the TRAM depot, the Management Centre for the RENFE Rodalies local train network, the Bicing Operations centre, the stables of the City Police and singular spaces such as the Cuca de Llum funicular at Tibidabo and the new Parc de les Glòries.
You can find more information and registration links on the municipal website for European Mobility Week. Registration for activities opens today, 1 September, except for the TMB activities, which opens in the coming days. This initiative aims to bring people into closer contact with the services that make more efficient, sustainable and connected mobility possible.
