‘Chiasm’, a sound and light installation marking 25 years of the Sónar

The Sónar festival turns 25 this year as a well-established city festival symbolising talent, creativity and the musical avant-garde. To mark the occasion, the inner courtyard at the City Hall will feature a sound and light installation from 12 to 14 June, designed by Edwin van der Heide and entitled ‘Chiasm’.

Besides being a rhetorical figure, the term chiasmus has been used in philosophy to refer to the relationship between body and space (physical, symbolic and also political). Based on this concept, Chiasm plays out this interaction in a dark universe, crossed with light, sound and smoke, a universe which only makes sense with the movement of its visitors. As they come into contact with this atmosphere, the profiles of visitors affect the different elements, creating a unique work with each interaction.
