Childhood 0-16 fund: 11.5 million euros to help vulnerable families

In an effort to eradicate child poverty and reduce inequalities in childhood, Barcelona City Council is devoting 11.5 million euros in financial support for 10,667 vulnerable households with minors. A quarter of these households are single-parent families (2,801). The process to access the support was simplified, with sixty support points located in different neighbourhoods to facilitate online applications.

Benefits offered by Barcelona City Council’s Childhood 0-16 Fund are between 50 and 100 euros per child per month for half a year, depending on the number of minors in each family. The goal is to cover children’s basic needs. For single-parent families, these sums can be complemented with an additional 100 euros.

The application period for this benefit payment ended on 10 June. An information campaign was run to help reach more vulnerable families and the application process simplified to reduce red tape. Face-to-face support was also available at 69 points to help people obtain the IdCAT Mòbil digital signature and enable them to apply online. Some 22.5% of applications were made in person and the rest online.
