Transformation of Passeig de la Mar Bella under way
The revamp to Passeig de la Mar Bella will upgrade the final stretch of the coast, adding more spaces to walk or cycle in, areas where people can spend time or do sport, plus 15,000 square metres of greenery.
The transformation includes a wide pedestrian path, a bike and scooter lane, play and meeting areas, two pergolas with solar panelling, 15,000 square metres of greenery and a thousand trees. New volleyball courts will also be installed and the bars that are currently on the beach will be transferred to the new seafront.
Work is expected to take until spring 2027.
A transformation adapted to climate change
The revamp includes changes to part of the wall at the Nova Mar Bella to increase the size of the beach and guarantee the sand there, as well as measures to strengthen the beach walls at the Nova Mar Bella and Llevant to make them more resistant to waves and storms.
Draining paving will also be installed along the new seafront.
Disruptions during the work
The work will occupy the whole perimeter of the Passeig Marítim del Bogatell, between C/ Bac de Roda and C/ Selva de Mar, with pedestrian crossings 4 to 5 metres wide maintained to provide access to the Nova Mar Bella beach. Spaces will be occupied sequentially and there will be no disruptions to traffic along Av. Litoral.
The bike lane in Passeig Marítim del Bogatell, on the Besòs side of C/ Bac de Roda, will be closed for the duration of the work. The alternative will be to use Pg. Garcia Fària, Litoral and Josep Pla. Cyclists will have to get off their bikes at the junction between C/ Selva de Mar and Av. Litoral.
Coast 100% renewed
The transformation of the Passeig Marítim de la Mar Bella gives dignity to the last stretch of coast in Barcelona still to be reconditioned, completing the connection with the Barcelona seafront and the coast in the neighbourhoods of Diagonal Mar and the seafronts of Poblenou and El Besòs i el Maresme.
The project corresponds to one of the three areas making up the full transformation of the avenue, the central area from La Mar Bella municipal sports centre to C/ Josep Pla, next to the maritime platform at the Fòrum, just in front of the Nova Mar Bella and Llevant beaches. This central section covers an area of 40,474 square metres.
