Construction begins on new Manuel Girona station to complete the L9/L10 lines
The Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition of the Generalitat has begun construction on the new Manuel Girona station, located at the junction of Passeig de Manuel Girona and Carrer del Doctor Ferran. The project forms part of the ongoing work to complete the central section of lines 9 and 10.
Starting this Monday, 4 August, construction will take over the entire site of the future station. The works include building a shaft 60 metres deep and 27 metres in diameter, which will house the station itself, along with the installation of a ventilation unit and various measures to ensure the safety and stability of nearby buildings.
Mobility disruptions
From 4 August until the end of the works, Carrer del Doctor Ferran will be completely closed, as will the pavement on the Llobregat side. The service lane and pavement on the seaward side of Passeig de Manuel Girona will also be closed.
These closures will affect both road traffic and pedestrian crossings, leading to diversions on several bus routes. Lines V3, 34 and 6 will follow revised routes and have new start and end points, with services redirected to the nearby areas of Eduardo Conde, Santa Amèlia and Capità Arenas.
Strategic efforts to improve metropolitan mobility
The new Manuel Girona station marks an important milestone towards the completion of the central section of the L9/L10 lines. These lines currently serve 27 million passengers a year, a figure expected to more than quadruple to 113 million once the project is finished.
With an investment of over 900 million euros, this project is part of a comprehensive effort to modernise and expand Barcelona’s metro network, improve connectivity and promote sustainable mobility throughout the entire metropolitan area.
