Coworking with social return in Horta-Guinardó

A new municipal coworking space has been set up in the Clota neighbourhood, in the district of Horta-Guinardó, for enterprises entering into a non-monetary exchange based instead on participation in social and community projects in the district.

Entrepreneurs working at the facility will not have to pay anything, but they will have to devote between four and eight hours a month to projects with a social return, with follow-up and support from the community and the management team.

These projects can be put forward by the coworkers themselves, by the district office or by social and community organisations in the local area. Needs which have been identified include training and relevant experience to improve local people’s job prospects, the production of communication materials for community activities and cooking workshops for people in vulnerable situations.

Backing the business network in Horta-Guinardó

The goal is to boost economic activity in a district with a scarce business network (5.9% of the city total), as well as to regain four empty ground-floor premises in Av. Estatut de Catalunya with 360 square metres of floor space and a capacity for up to fifty people.

The premises will have office space, as well as a full kitchen and fully-equipped workshops for manual crafts and trade activities linked to robotics and 3D printing, bicycle repair and fashion design.

At present the eleven projects promoted from the coworking space correspond to photography, coaching and therapeutic support, cooking, consultancy services, sports materials, textiles and needlework and digital marketing.
