By activity, areas that stand out in the confidence ratings are everyday non-food commerce, with over 17 points, and food and drink, with 8.5 points, achieving record scores. The lowest scores went to shops offering cultural and leisure options and personal equipment, with scores around 1 point, and household goods, with 3.4 points.

The key indicator for explaining this improvement in commercial confidences is found in expectations, with a rise of 30.8 points, representing an 11-point increase compared to 2023 and compensating the ratings for the current situation of 15.2 negative points until the end of 2024. This pattern can be found across practically all sectors, with the exception of the motor sector (+6.5 points) and everyday non-food commerce (+8.3 points).

The report by the Municipal Data Office gauges the feelings or optimism of pessimism among those with shops and businesses in connection with their activity in both the past and the future. These feelings condition aspects such as the inclination to maintain, update or improve businesses.

The report is based on the information generated by the survey on commercial activity in Barcelona, conducted among 1,200 businesses and with the current edition carried out in a single wave.
