Deputies of the Chamber of Japan visit the Barcelona City Council
The deputy mayor of Agenda 2030, Digital Transition, Sports and Territorial and Metropolitan Coordination, Laia Bonet, received on August 19 at the Barcelona City Council a group of seven deputies from the Chamber of Japan representing the Committee on Internal Affairs and communication of the Chamber, and the International Relations, Science, Technology and Innovation area. The consul general of Japan in Barcelona, Naohito Watanabe, also attended.
Laia Bonet highlighted the policies in the field of Smart City of Barcelona and stressed the importance of strengthening relations with cities in Japan to give continuity and promote agreements and mutual interests that the city of Barcelona maintains with them. Last March, Barcelona renewed the collaboration agreement with the city of Yokohama to work in the fields of smart city development, renewable energy, urban transport, circular society and city promotion. In addition, Barcelona maintains a collaboration agreement with Kyoto in the fields of economic development, technological innovation and public open data management. Also, Barcelona and Kyoto co-organize the Kyoto Smart City Expo since its first edition in 2014.
On the other hand, Barcelona has been twinned with the Japanese city of Kobe for more than 25 years (the 25th anniversary of the twinning was celebrated in November 2018), with which it maintains different areas of work, such as an open data display contest , the World Data Viz Challenge Barcelona-Kobe, to promote and facilitate improvements in the city. The 2019 call for this contest has already been published.
