Fewer complaints about noise and alcohol consumption in public space

The Coexistence Report 2024 notes an increase in complaints due to greater police pressure, while the overall number of complaints has dropped. The attitudes that generate the most inconvenience among people in the city relate to alcohol consumption in public places, unlicensed vending and noise.

Last year, the City Police and the Mossos d’Esquadra police corps reported slightly more than 97,000 infringements of the by-law with measures to foster and guarantee public coexistence in public space in Barcelona, some 2,500 more than in 2023.

By category, the highest number were linked to the unauthorised vending of food, drinks and other products, accounting for around 42,000 fines (some 4.8% lower).

Reports relating to alcohol consumption in public space accounted for just of 38,000 (some 10.3% lower), mainly due to an increase in police pressure. Calls made to the 112 emergency number with related complaints dropped by 5.3%.

Finally, the third main cause of inconvenience for people in Barcelona was noise pollution, with 8.100 fines (11% lower), while the fourth was people attending to physiological needs in public places, with over 6,300.
