Last ‘Open Streets’ until September

First held in October 2020 as a way of gaining more space for local people, this weekend’s edition of the ‘Open Streets’ initiative will be the last until the weekend of 4 and 5 September. The streets of Creu Coberta – Carrer de Sants and Carrer de Gran de Gràcia will be closed to traffic on Saturday and Sunday, from 9 am to 8 pm. Some 88% of those running commercial establishments and 75% of local people are in favour or very much in favour of the initiative.

The goal of ‘Open Streets’ is to gain new spaces for walking and recreation, as well as to broaden and promote activity in shopping hubs.

In this respect, 81% of business owners and retailers believe the initiative has benefitted their commercial activity.

Along with street-calming measures, superblocks and the promotion of sustainable mobility, ‘Open Streets’ is another of the initiatives to achieve a healthier, safer and more human city.
