New bike lane sections to continue enlarging and improving the cycling network

Work is under way on three new sections of bike lanes to boost cycling connections between the city’s districts and the municipalities in the metropolitan area. The new projects include the enlargement of the cycling network in Av. Vallcarca, Av. Diagonal and the streets of Cantàbria and Santander. The new sections should be ready in the first half of 2023.

Work is currently in progress on 32.6 kilometres of bike lanes, with improvements to 11.7 existing kilometres. The goal is to reach a network covering 272.6 kilometres.

Vila de Gràcia, Pg. Vall d’Hebron and Pl. Alfonso Comín: better connected by bike

The cycling route in Av. Vallcarca will be completed along the section between C/ Esteve Terrades and Pl. Lesseps and configured according to the direction of traffic.

  • Heading towards the mountains: one-way segregated lane next to the pavement.
  • Heading toward the sea: lane shared with buses and traffic.

Work will be completed in April 2023.

Continuity with the Esplugues bike lane

Work is in progress on a new two-way bike lane in Av. Diagonal, between Escola Universitària d’Empresarials and Parc de Cervantes. This section is expected to be ready in June 2023.

Cycling connection between La Sagrera, Poblenou and the Montsolís industrial estate in Sant Adrià de Besòs

The new bike lanes in the streets of Cantàbria and Santander, between the streets of Menorca and Ca n’Oliva, will improve connectivity with the metropolitan area and will be one-way segregated lanes next to the pavement. Work on these should be completed in January.

The goal of the work is to enlarge the cyclable network, improve its conditions and make it better connected.
