A new home for the elderly in Les Corts

The Catalan government’s Ministry for Social Rights is to build a new elderly people’s home with services and a day centre in Carrer de Benavent, in the district of Les Corts. The home will be located on a site provided by the City Council, with the project to receive 11.6 million euros from Europe’s Next Generation funds.

The facilities at the future home for the elderly will be organised into shared units or modules of between 18 and 20 people. The idea is to generate environments similar to private homes, with calmer and safer spaces. At least 70% of bedrooms at the centre will be individual. The home will also have spaces for personalised assistance, such as sensorial stimulation rooms, physiotherapy rooms and other multi-purpose rooms.

The day centre will be an independent space with twenty places, designed to provide day care and support with daily life for a group of elderly people who need an additional day home, without the need for bedrooms.

Extra support for people through European funds

Besides the construction project for the residence, the Ministry for Social Rights will be using nearly 14 million euros from the European funds between now and 2024 to improve social protection. This goal includes strengthening support for people with social needs, the modernisation of social services management through technology and moving forward in universal accessibility in public services.

One of the projects agreed is the rollout of 700 virtual robot assistants in city households. The ARI robot will be installed in the homes of elderly or dependent people who live alone. Among other things, the robot can quickly detect emergency situations in the home, ensure the correct dosage of medication or remind users of dates of interest.
