Institutional cooperation to eradicate sexist violence

A new institutional and funding agreement between the City Council and the Government of Catalonia over the next four years will allow for the rollout of new support policies for women, the promotion of equality and the eradication of sexist violence and all discrimination. Over 4.7 million euros will be spent in all.

A specific new unit is to be set up to provide support in tackling sexist violence, operating as part of the Support, Recovery and Shelter Service (SARA) and offering specialist assistance to help in the recovery process for women who have suffered this type of violence. The unit is expected to come into operation at the end of 2023 and will have a budget of two million euros. The new centre will be located in the Eixample district and provide close and comprehensive help for residents in the districts of Ciutat Vella, L’Eixample, Sants-Montjuïc, Les Corts, Sarrià – Sant Gervasi and Gràcia.

The remaining budget of 2.7 million euros will be used to provide support and shelter for women and their children in emergency situations resulting from sexist violence.
