Plan to transform the Colònia Castells industrial site into a park of 10,000 m2

The transformation of the former Colònia Castells industrial site will create a large park of 10,000 m2, with health and recreation spaces filling the area with community life. Work gets under way at this well-known industrial site in the district of Les Corts in March 2022 and will take a year.

The new green community space will have:

  • A central space
  • Routes for strolling
  • Areas to relax in, with thirty benches
  • Community allotments
  • Children’s games: rubber-floor play area with swings and slides
  • An exercise circuit for the elderly

The area will also have large parterres, a hundred trees and bushes with a rainwater recycling system.

A large pergola will also be installed to create shade. The structure can also house solar panelling in the future.

Besides the park, the plan is for the site to house public facilities and housing too.

Preserving historical memory

Eleven of the houses in the former industrial colony will be conserved, with community uses to be determined once they are renovated. The transformation project for the Colònia Castells means people living in the houses will be rehoused and compensated.

Located between the streets of Entença, Taquígraf Serra, Equador and Montnegre, this industrial site is a historical point of reference in Les Corts. It was built in 1923 as a factory for varnish and glosses and closed down at the turn of the millennium.
