New service contract for 2021-2023 for removing graffiti, posters and signs

The new contract for removing graffiti, posters and signs for the period 2021-2023 starts tomorrow, 24 January. The priority is to improve the urban landscape, with activity to be stepped up to guarantee this. In addition, artificial intelligence will now be used to identify the authorship of graffiti and measures built into the service to cut noise pollution from its vehicles.

The new graffiti cleaning service will be bolstered from 72 to 92 workers. In all, 26 teams of two people with water-jet vans will be operating from Mondays to Saturdays, with five teams in operation on Sundays.

Besides keeping on the current workers, the new contract establishes that 10% of the workforce must be made up of people who are currently unemployed or those with special labour insertion difficulties or social exclusion. Measures must also be promoted on gender equality, work-life balance and criteria on functional diversity.

What does the graffiti removal service do?

The service includes the elimination of graffiti on the walls of non-listed buildings, pavements and road surfaces, along with special cleaning for walls and other vertical surfaces and elements.

The new contract will also enable cleaning to be carried out on street plaques, information totems, beach bars and municipally licenced newsstands.

New aspects to the graffiti removal service

A catalogue of tags will be introduced to help identify the authorship of graffiti using artificial intelligence.

There will also be a plan to cut noise pollution from all vehicles used by the service.

The graffiti cleaning service acted in 164,662 instances in the city in 2019.
