Better accessibility and sustainability as the new Sant Andreu railway station opens
The new Sant Andreu railway station comes into service with a more accessible and sustainable building. The new construction replaces the former Sant Andreu Comtal station, the oldest in service in the whole of the Spanish state. The old building opened in 1854 and will now be turned into a neighbourhood facility.
The new station offers floor space of 696 square metres, two platforms and four tracks, with three entrance points from outside. Accessibility is helped by two lifts connecting the foyer with the platforms, plus escalators.
The tracks are decorated with a mural by the artists Roc Blackblock and Miquel Wert, covering 3,100 of wall space with urban art.
New rail layout for the future La Sagrera station
In addition, the final layout has also now been inaugurated for the Barcelona-Granollers-Girona track, which passes through the future La Sagrera station.
This will enable the tracks between El Clot and Sant Andreu to be shifted below ground, improving connections on foot between neighbourhoods.
