22@ revitalises its public space and boosts sustainable mobility

Work is under way to revamp over 17,000 square metres of C/ Tànger, between C/ Pamplona and C/ Àvila and the surrounding area. The renovation will foster the use of bicycles and public transport, improving accessibility and connectivity in the western sector of the 22@ area.

The revamp means that next year, C/ Tànger and C/ Pamplona will have a new one-way bike lane, a bus lane and two traffic lanes. The pavements will also be broadened and freed of obstacles, with plant tubs, parterres and new trees added, along with bike parking spaces and urban furniture.

Streets for local people

The project for C/ Pamplona will see the street opened up as far as the junction with C/ Bolívia and Av. Meridiana. The section of C/ Àlaba between C/ Bolívia and C/ Sancho de Àvila will have one traffic lane, with loading and unloading areas and pedestrian areas and more greenery also added.

The renovation work in these sections of the street in the Sant Martí district comes in addition to the work already carried out in C/ Marroc, between C/ Selva de Mar and C/ Puigcerdà, which was remodelled at the end of last year. The project provides continuity in fostering sustainable mobility and increasing pedestrian space all around the streets of C/ Marroc and C/ Tànger, as well as better connectivity between the neighbourhood of Provençals del Poblenou and L’Eixample.

New LED lighting will be installed in the whole area, as will a pneumatic waste collection system and a centralised heat network. The work will cost six million euros and is expected to be completed in a year.
