The first CULTUROPOLIS International Days on Cultural Rights brings together 40 general speakers, 55 academic speakers and over 600 registered participants from home and abroad, including places as diverse as Chile, Colombia, Jamaica, Morocco and Zimbabwe.

Participants in the event include Alexandra Xanthaki, UN Special Rapporteur for Cultural Rights; Catherine Magnant, Head of the Policy Unit for the European Commission’s Directorate General for Education and Culture; Paola Leoncini Bartoli, Director of Cultural Policy and Development with UNESCO; Rocio Nogales, Director of the international research network EMES; Sara Brighenti, Sub-curator for the National Arts Plan by the Portuguese government; Noel Kelly, Director of Visual Artists Ireland, and John Crowley, Chair and councillor delegate for the PHGD and ex-director of the Section for Research, Policy and Foresight with UNESCO.

Debate, reflection and a citizen celebration

CULTUROPOLIS is being held in two venues in Av. Paral·lel: El Molino and Paral·lel 62. Activities include 7 debate sessions 11 sessions for talks and academic debates, 4 blocks for the presentation of projects, 36 projects for good international practice, 12 shows and cultural activities and 5 participatory workshops.

CULTUROPOLIS culminates on Saturday morning with a big street bash to celebrate cultural rights. The closing activity includes a live community television programme, a games zone with recycled materials, participatory dance shows, a radio show with Marc Giró and Flavita Banana, a popular procession and concerts by Rumba All Stars and Sra. Tomasa.

Barcelona cultural rights plan

CULTUROPOLIS forms part of the Cultural Rights Plan, which since April 2021 has set out the conceptual, political and strategic framework to recognise and broaden cultural rights in the city, based on new government measures and over a hundred actions.
