Two initiatives to reuse water from two municipal sports facilities
Two greywater treatment plants are now in use at the CEM Sant Sebastià and the CEM Estació del Nord, the aim being to save, recover and reuse water for other purposes at the sports centres. The initiatives received funding from the ‘Barcelona with sustainable sport’ awards and are part of the alternative water resources plan in the Climate Plan.
Reuse of water from the showers at the CEM Sant Sebastià
This facility has an annual water consumption of 33,600 cubic metres, 75% of which corresponds to the greywater from the changing rooms. To reuse the water from the showers, the Club Natació Atlètic-Barceloneta has opted to put it to alternative uses to reduce the consumption of safe water. The project is jointly funded by Barcelona City Council with 100,000 euros and the support of Port de Barcelona.
Reuse of greywater from swimming-pool cleaning filters at the CEM Estació del Nord
The plant installed at the facility and managed by the UFEC allows 98% of the water to be reused from the heated pool cleaning filters, thanks to an ultra-filtering process to reduce the consumption of safe water. The initiative received 100,000 euros in funding from Barcelona City Council.
