Elvira Dyangani Ose named as the new director of the MACBA

The Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) is to be directed by a woman for the first time. Elvira Dyangani Ose has been named as the museum’s new director by the General Board of the MACBA Consortium. The institutional presentation of the new director was attended by the Mayor, Ada Colau; the Minister for Culture, Natàlia Garriga; the chair of the Fundació MACBA, Ainhoa Grandes; the manager of the MACBA, Josep Maria Carreté, and the Deputy Mayor Joan Subirats.

International profile

With her long-standing ties to Barcelona, Elvira Dyangani Ose has ample experience in cultural facilities in different parts of the world. As from 2018 she was the director and chief curator at The Showroom, in London, as well as a professor in Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths University, also in London. She has also been a member of the Thought Council and Fondazione Prada since 2014.

The new director replaces Ferran Barenblit, who held the post for the last six years.
