Experience Sant Jordi in Barcelona
Sant Jordi is an intense experience in the streets of Barcelona, which packs the city with roses and books, readers and writers. Almost 250 authors will be signing their latest works around the city.
If you want to know where to find your favourite writer, you can check online at websites such as www.seriebcn.net, which covers all the signing points in the city.
For the youngest public, Passeig de Sant Joan sees the focal point for children’s books and activities at the section between c/ Ausiàs March and Rda. Sant Pere. This is the place to find the latest new works and a space where infants and children can discover the world of literature in a fun and comfortable manner, thanks to workshops, games and shows which are being organised there.
As has become usual over the last few years, the City Council is celebrating Sant Jordi by once again opening its doors to the public. From 10.00 am to 8.00 pm, entry is free to visit the most important parts of the council building with a route which is helped along by historic personalities receiving visitors in the noble halls.
During the open day, third sector entities will have stalls in the City Hall courtyard to sell solidarity roses. All the money raised will go to participating entities. This is not the only charitable side to the event however, as the Amics de la Gent Gran association calls for over 1,000 volunteers to take a rose and a book to the old people they have been accompanying for the past year. The campaign is called ‘Roses contra l’oblit’ and has now taken place on this date for the last 17 years.
