Some 90% of families with children at the Escola Barrufet gave permission for their children to be tested. PCR tests were carried out on 404 pupils and 64 members of staff, including teachers and other workers.

The testing at schools consists of taking nasal smears, a less intrusive methodology as the cotton used to collect the sample is not introduced so far into the nose and it also enables asymptomatic cases to be identified.
