To reinforce food policies, first of all it’s necessary to develop a training project. Public administrations, with the support of public bodies, companies and organisations both public and private are developing a range of courses, seminars, workshops and training programmes. From various different perspectives, they provide training for companies engaged in activities related to sustainable food, enabling them to share best practice, or to learn how to design, implement and promote agroecology projects.

You can find a list of the training programmes currently taking place here:

An Introduction to Revitalising Local Agroecology (course)

Training sponsored by the AMB and PEMB, with trainers who teach revitalising local agroecology at Postgraduate level (UAB). Intended for public administration staff in the Barcelona metropolitan area who work in the fields of agri-food, employment, economic promotion, local development, territorial planning and the environment.

Local agroecological revitalisation (DLAe) is a methodology developed in response to the current context of the climate emergency and the systemic crisis affecting the areas of agri-food, territorial planning, economic promotion and local development, among other issues. It also promotes an ecological transition towards fairer, healthier and more sustainable food systems. In order to achieve this, stakeholders, resources and skills within local communities must be harnessed.

The course gives staff from public administrations in the Barcelona metropolitan area the opportunity to learn about the theoretical and methodological cornerstones of agroecology, food sovereignty and local agroecological revitalisation, in addition to learning about public policies that are being implemented in the urban and metropolitan area to promote healthier, fairer and more sustainable communities and food systems.

INNOFOOD

Programme promoted by Barcelona Activa and Mercabarna. Aimed at entrepreneurs in areas such as organic and local products, food safety and quality, diet and nutrition, sustainability and avoiding food waste, and start-ups in the food sector.

This is a training course on specific topics for companies in the food sector, for example business models and development, adding value, and the main sources of funding.

Col·laboratori

Promoted by Barcelona Activa’s Department for Socio-Economic Innovation. Intended for municipal staff (departments, districts, facilities and associated bodies) directly or indirectly involved in projects focused on sustainable food. The aim is to clarify concepts and get to know what resources might be available, providing points of reference and expertise both from within the City Council and from outside that will make it possible to successfully develop and support projects, and to do so in a more coordinated way.

It is set up as a space to foster creative ideas and an exchange of experiences in order to promote different sectors, and encourage reflection and the systematisation of knowledge based on the practices and experiences of professionals from the different sectors.

MatchImpulsa. Digital agroecology

In the context of Barcelona’s position as the World Sustainable Food Capital this year, the MatchImpulsa +100 programme will include a training programme with over 13 hours of exclusive training (13/100) linked to the digital agroecology networking space and open to sustainable food projects that are working to boost income and create a digital platform.

In this way, the businesses taking part will benefit from an ad hoc programme that offers inspiring local and international experiences, and that will enable them to find out about new solutions and projects that have evolved due to the Covid-19 crisis, and also provide training on how to develop a digital platform, looking at innovation, exploring challenges around food distribution, and reflecting on project engagement, traceability, or trends and online sales. Moreover, with the aim of creating and consolidating this ecosystem, the MatchImpulsa programme will provide digital agroecology participants with networking sessions, spaces for meetings (6 hours) between stakeholders within the sector, and also with other ecosystems who wish to facilitate debates and challenges via digital platforms.

Training for projects and organisations involved in the Social and Solidarity Economy

Barcelona Activa’s Department for Socio-Economic Innovation is proposing a set of short, free training modules created with the goal of providing tools for entrepreneurs and organisations involved in the social solidarity economy, and people wanting to commit to the generation of positive environmental impacts and more democratic organisational models. It’s delivered in two formats: single-session or multi-session.

Training aimed at organisations and entrepreneurs is provided. In addition, the modules are designed in such a way that they can be complemented by the Social and Solidarity Economy Advisory Service (SAESS) on a personalised basis.
