The assisted bathing service at Barcelona’s beaches features a new inclusive changing room at Barceloneta beach this summer. The facility is located under the arches at the beach and is offers 60 square metres of space, divided into three areas where users can get changed, shower and use the toilet. The unit has an accessible toilet for people with ostomy pouching, an accessible shower area, lockers and a waiting area for users, plus an independent accessible changing area with a hoist, toilet and shower.

The service will be operating until 11 September, from 10.30 am to 7.30 pm. According to the Councillor for Health, People with Disabilities and Strategy against Loneliness, also chair of the IMPD, Marta Villanueva, the initiative responds to the desire to ensure all members of the public can enjoy public space autonomously and in equal conditions.

New for 2025

This summer sees the assisted bathing service add various improvements to strengthen accessibility for people with disabilities at Barcelona’s beaches. Besides the new inclusive changing room at Barceloneta beach, changes and new facilities have been introduced at different points in the city to ensure a safer, more autonomous and comfortable bathing experience for everybody.

Assisted bathing

The assisted bathing service is intended for people with reduced mobility who need personal and technical support to access the water. All Barcelona beaches have accessibility measures such as reserved parking, accessible routes to the beach, visual, tactile and aural signage, adapted toilets and wooden walkways to get as close as possible to the water. These measures are part of the municipal commitment to a more inclusive and accessible city for all.
