Over 150 activities for the Science Festival 2024

The 17th Science Festival is being held from 7 to 9 June and is set to fill El Born CCM and Plaça Comercial with knowledge, research and fun for people of all ages. Archaeology, artificial intelligence and climate change take centre stage this year in an annual event designed to bring science closer to the general public.

Now in its 17th edition, this year’s Science Festival moves to El Born CCM and Plaça Comercial, with over 150 activities to promote science and technology in thirty spaces: games, experiments, workshops, shows, storytelling, tours, exhibitions, comedy and more. Nearly 120 institutions and organisations have been involved in developing the programme, with over 200 participants.

The event is aimed at all audiences, with lots of activities for families and children. This is also the first time the festival has featured a special night-time programme, on Saturday, 8 June, from 8 pm to 11 pm, aimed at people aged 16 upwards. This is not the only new aspect to this year’s event: activities are being organised at the Centre Martorell d’Exposicions and at the Hivernacle, both of which are now operating as part of the Ciutadella del Coneixement knowledge hub. This is also the first time that a previous session is being held (during the morning of 7 June) for 200 schoolchildren who took part in the programme “Ciència ciutadana a les escoles”.

The sea, water and the blue economy will also feature strongly at the Science Festival, coinciding with the Cultural Regatta for the America’s Cup in Barcelona, and the Ocean Decade for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), in the context of the current drought linked to climate change.
