With the pandemic now into its third year and having accentuated inequalities all around the world, the City Council has decided to increase the budgetary item for funding given to projects in international cooperation, education and global justice. The rise of 6.36% brings the overall amount to 7.52 million euros and represents an additional 450,000 euros compared to the last call.

Organisations wishing to apply have until 24 February to do so online. This format has been used for the last seven years and helps streamline procedures and rationalise the number of documents to be presented, a volume which has been reduced substantially over this period. Each entity can present up to three projects maximum.

The call includes ten project categories, grouped into three programmes as follows: 3.2 million euros for cooperation on global justice; 1.9 million euros for cooperation on global justice in specific cities, which also seeks to strengthen local governments in partner cities to roll out municipal policies, and 2.3 million euros for education for global justice.

All these subsidies are based around the four challenges to achieve cooperation for global justice: economic justice, environmental justice, gender justice and people’s right to refuge, movement and migration.

Areas given preference

Geographically, the Master Plan established by the Directorate for Global Justice and International Cooperation (DJGCI) prioritises the cities of Amman, Saïda, Tetuan and Tunis, and the people of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (Mediterranean and Middle East); Maputo and Dakar (Sub-Saharan Africa); Havana and the Colombian cities involved in the peace process (Latin America and the Caribbean), which are all set out in the subsidy call. In addition, the Cooperation Programme for Specific Cities identifies Sarajevo as an area to be given preference.
