New administrative mechanism to put empty flats in the city to social use

A letter has been sent to 14 large societies which between them own 194 empty flats in the city, ordering them to rent out the homes within a month at the most. The empty flats are on the Government of Catalonia’s official register, but the initiative will also extend to societies which own empty flats which are not registered.

The Anti-harassment and Housing Discipline Unit has started a new administrative initiative to give a social use to all empty housing belonging to owners of multiple properties so that they are rented out within one month maximum. If the flats are not rented, the City Council will apply measures such as fines or expropriation warnings.

The letters correspond to 194 empty flats which belong to 14 owners of multiple homes. These are the first letters to be sent to large societies which own homes on the Government of Catalonia’s official register, consisting of 426 empty flats belonging to 24 different owners in the city, ordering them all in the same way.
