New route for the Nose Race

The Nose Race (Cursa dels Nassos) returns to the city a year on, after last year’s edition was held with heavy limitations due to the situation with the pandemic. As ever, health protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19 will be in place, as stipulated by the health authorities.

Notable changes to this year’s edition include new routes for both the popular and the international edition, of 10 and 5 km respectively, eliminating some curves to create a faster circuit.

The new 10 km circuit starts and finishes in C/ Selva de Mar (by Pl. Ramon Calsina), taking in a large part of the city’s coastline. The route goes up Pg. Picasso and back, tracing long sections in C/ Llull, C/ Llacuna and Av. Diagonal.

The 5 km circuit starts and finishes where Av. Icària meets C/ Pamplona, joining up with the rest of the route from C/ Marina and ending up at the same finish line in C/ Selva de Mar.

Safe run

Registration has been limited to 6,500 runners, who will be starting in three staggered groups: the first at 5.15 pm, the second at 5.18 pm and the third at 5.23 pm. Face masks will be mandatory on the starting grid and runners must keep hold of them during the race.

This way the event will comply with all the preventive measures to stop the spread of Covid-19, with organising staff to get training on specific action and protocols for the event to go ahead free of risk. Participating runners will be notified of any changes to the protocol by email.

Held on 31 December, the run forms part of the Challenge BCN 10K and rounds off the competition calendar for 2021. Some of the runners confirmed for the 5 km event include the athletes Carlos Mayo and Yassine Ouhdadi, from Tortosa, Paralympic champion in the 5,000 metres at the Tokyo Olympics. Marta Galimany has also been confirmed in the 10 km event.
