Programme for the job placement of young people in local shops and markets
During 2019, the “Oportunitats als mercats i el comerç de proximitat” [“Opportunities in local shops and markets”] programme will be carried out with the aim of boosting youth employment in the food sale and product processing industry. The initiative, which is driven by Barcelona Activa, will include a total of 51 young people.
The young people taking part in the programme will spend periods experiencing three professional profiles in the food sale and product processing industry. The aim is to encourage young people to take over municipal markets. This project is being carried out in collaboration with the Municipal Institute of Barcelona Markets (IMMB) and Barcelona’s wholesale market Mercabarna.
The programme is part of Barcelona Activa’s so-called “Projectes singulars” [Unique Projects] which during 2019 will give 368 young people of between 16 and 29 years of age the chance to join the world of work through four different programmes. “Garantia d’Èxit BCN. Joves DAO (Joves que Descobreixen, Aprenen i s’Ocupen)” [“Success Guaranteed BCN. DAO Young People (Young People who Discover, Learn and Become Employed”),”Acceleradora laboral” [“Employment Accelerator”] and “Joves IT Academy” [“Youth IT Academy”] are the other programmes that were approved this December by the Employment Service of Catalonia (SOC) together with the “Opportunities in local shops and markets” programme.
