Renovation work to recover the essence of outdoor access areas at Montjuïc CastleThe Government Commission has given its definitive approval to the project, with a value of 1.4 million euros. The areas around the castle will be completely renovated to conserve their heritage value and improve their functionality.
The project includes various actions to the section of the wall in front of the first part of the building, more precisely in the space above the entrance tunnels. Paving here will be re-laid to make it more even, with some slopes improved to provide better accessibility. In addition, weatherproofing and service networks will be improved or renewed.
More herbaceous vegetation will be planted to highlight the castle’s character as a stronghold, with existing furniture to be relocated to help create a pleasant shaded area where people can relax.
Montjuïc Castle receives 800,000 visitors a year. Work is expected to start in January and last six months.
