Sants local festival is back with appointments and limited capacity

Festival activities end at 12.30 am at the latest, with the Jardins de Can Mantega as the focal point, between the streets of Joan Güell, Violant d’Hongria, Torrent de Perales and Rosés. The celebration will adopt a reduced five-day format from 24 to 29 August, adapting to the health situation and with all current protocols in place to ensure safety.

Street decorations are back again but will be from balconies and façades only, in just eight locations and with no competition held. The traditional offerings to Sant Bartomeu will also be made in the Santa Maria de Sants church and at the neighbourhood market. Traffic circulation will be cut so as not to hamper or impede the flow or pedestrians, avoiding build-ups of people. Click here for information on disruptions to traffic.

The opening speech will pay tribute to two key sectors from the pandemic: the healthcare sector, with the director of the CAP Numància, Marta Sorribes, and commerce, with the pastry chef Joan Galimany, owner of one of the oldest and most iconic establishments in the neighbourhood.

Besides the Jardins de Can Mantega, festivities are planned in other neighbourhood locations such as the Jardins de la Rambla de Santa, with a static fire display by the local fire devils group; the Lleiltat Santsteca, with a poster exhibition, and the esplanade behind the old Germans Climent factory, with musical performances and activities for families and children. Anti-sexist stand and cleaning operation

The local festival will include a purple point offering advice and information to prevent cases of sexual harassment, along with guidance and support for anybody who suffers sexist violence, LGBTI-phobia or sexual violence in public space. The stand will be located in the esplanade behind the old Germans Climent factory.

Sixty portable toilets will also be set up, a third of them adapted, with extra cleaning provided in the main streets participating and the rest of the neighbourhood.
