New usage plan initially approved for Ciutat Vella
The regulation extends the suspension of new licences for various activities in the district. The plan will now be subject to a public scrutiny period, with final approval expected at the end of the year.
The new usage plan maintains the prohibition on opening new manicure or pedicure saloons, the sale of products for growing cannabis and related substances, plus shops selling mobile phone cases and accessories, in place since July 2024.
The suspension on all licences for new activities in La Rambla also continues, with the exception of new cultural activities. Activities such as theatre cafes, concert venues, musical shows, auditions with seating, audiovisuals, art galleries, theatre, circus or similar, artistic and literary creation, museum activities, archives and libraries, bookstores, cultural dissemination centres and others may be authorised.
The procedure aims to keep local people in the area and proposes a single regulation for the whole district, with two unique strategic areas: La Rambla, as a cultural hub, and Via Laietana, with a variety of commercial and corporate uses.
