Seven weeks to strengthen the connection between architecture and people

As a prelude to Barcelona World Capital of Architecture 2026, the city’s Architecture Weeks 2025 will be held over seven weeks, from 12 May to 28 June, with more than 200 activities for all audiences to reflect on and share that way cities are built, rebuilt and adapted to today’s challenges, making the most of and promoting the connection between architecture and people.

Exhibitions, competitions, discussions, guided tours, celebrations, workshops for all the family and more. Over 200 activities make up an extensive programme for this year’s Architecture Weeks, an event which since its first edition in 2017 has become firmly established as an initiative open to participation by all organisations devoted to the dissemination of architecture in the city, in collaboration with various social, cultural and artistic disciplines.

In this edition of the Architecture Weeks, organised by Barcelona City Council and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, a total of 70 organisations and 12 universities responded to the open call, resulting in a programme of activities with projects and something new for everybody interested in discovering the city’s rich architectural heritage, historical and contemporary, and its importance today.

First week
Architecture workshops in classrooms, organised by the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC) and given by 108 architects to 9,7000 students at 111 schools in the province of Barcelona. The COAC are also organising the Architecture Festivals 2025, this year concentrated on the Llars Mundet site and complemented with guided tours of the complex, as well as an exhibition on the Catalan vault as a construction system.

Second week
Activities linked to housing cooperatives and new ways of living predominate, with talks, round tables, exhibitions and tours. In addition, Construmat, the large fair for the architecture and construction sector, is being held from 20 to 22 May.

Third week
Music plays a key role in the perception of space in the third week, with the possibility of enjoying a clarinet and electronic music concert at the ESMUC, as well as an interpretative melody outside the Casa Bloc. Aspects that stand out in tours at other spaces in the city this week include film, with the fourth edition of the European conference “Architecture and the media” at the Pavelló Mies van der Rohe on 26 May, exploring the realms of communication that help to generate content about architecture.

Fourth week
Various discussions and exhibitions will combine with routes and guided tours this week, such as those offering a chance to visit the rooftop of La Pedrera (6 June) or visit the former headquarters of the Edifici Gustavo Gili. A variety of family workshops are also planned.

Fifth week
Highlights include the FAD Awards for Architecture and Interior Design, organised by ARQUIN-FAD on the evening of 10 June, and the Hidden Spaces of the 48H Open House Barcelona, under the slogan “Tempus fugit: exposició internacional 1929″, enabling people to enter the hidden corners of ten unique buildings that help us to understand the evolution of this site. Other activities include guided tours of sustainable shade and urban regeneration prototypes, organised by BITHabitat, plus the rationalist heritage map of Barcelona, on 11 June.

Sixth week
Organised by Barcelona regional and Barcelona City Council, the “City and health facilities” meetings aim to collectively rethink the role of hospitals in the city. This week also brings Construction Night (19 June), organised by the Technical Architecture Association of Barcelona, which includes the Catalonia Construction Awards and a festive event at the Ateneu L’Harmonia de Sant Andreu, where the Young Architects’ Group will be offering workshops and music for all.

Seventh week
The final week offers a chance to enjoy other artistic disciplines linked to architecture, with contemporary dance shows such as Jarana and La caída (both on 27 June). Universities are also organising several activities this week, such as workshops and exhibitions.
