The work responds to requests from local people in the Fort Pienc neighbourhood, as well as users of the children’s play area here. As the square is located on top of a paved section covering an underground car park, it was not possible to plant trees there when it was created. Because of this, two large pergolas will be installed to create spaces to provide protection from the sun and help combat the effects of the climate crisis, given that heatwaves are becoming more frequent and intense.

The two large structures will have metal frames and wooden strips, with solar panelling across the top capable of generating 30.707 kWh a year in energy.

The tendering process and execution of the work is expected to be completed in 2023, at an approximate cost of 55,000 euros.
