The goal is to attract more international university talent and boost the support and advice provided for them. Such talent brings competitiveness, creativity and innovative capacity, as well as being one of the keys for attracting new investment and foreign companies that generate new quality jobs.

This collaboration with the university sphere comes in addition to the other action in the Barcelona, Talent City’ measure, such as the plan to attract local young talent back and the imminent opening of the international talent support office, the Barcelona International Welcome Desk.

Work is also being done to establish new mechanisms for collaborating with other administrations to reduce red tape relating to the arrival of international talent: help with obtaining the NIE (identity number for foreign nationals), with visas and work permits and other key procedures.

What is the BCU?

The Barcelona University Centre is a project by the Fundació Bosch i Gimpera (belonging to the University of Barcelona), with all the city’s universities as members. It was set up in 1997 with the mission of promoting Barcelona and its metropolitan area as an international university centre.

The BCU offers accommodation, welcome services and support for students, teaching staff and researchers arriving at universities and research centres every year. On average, the centre has provided accommodation for 3,000 people and offered advice for more than 100,000 people a year up until 2019.
