Fira Barcelona ready to host large events in 2021
Fira Barcelona is working to gradually get its 2021 calendar back to normal and host international and professional events at its sites in Montjuïc and Gran Via, as well as its activity in other countries. Despite most of this year’s fairs being postponed because of the pandemic, and a strict cost-control policy being put in place, the economic results for 2020 show a turnover of more than 80 million euros.
Fira de Barcelona has set itself a target of turning over more than 125 million euros in 2021 and once again being a driving economic and social force for businesses, particularly SMEs, and for the country.
In addition, the development plan to expand the Gran Via site will continue next year. The project will increase the current surface space there by 25%, allowing existing fairs to grow and helping to attract new events.
Large events timetabled
- Alimentaria, from 17 to 20 May, one of the most important events in Europe for the agro-food sector.
- Integrated Systems Europe (ISE), from 1 to 4 June, the world’s most important fair for the audio-visual industry.
- MWC, from 28 June to 1 July, the biggest international fair for mobile communications.
Other notable profesional fairs
- Hispack and Alimentaria FoodTech, on packaging and food tech.
- Smart City Expo World Congress, leading event on smart city solutions.
- IOT Solutions World Congress, on the Internet of Things.
- Expoquimia, Eurosurfas and Equiplast, the three large events for applied chemistry.
Other leading fairs include Automobile Barcelona, Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week and the Saló de l’Ensenyament.
The calendar also includes major events organised by other bodies, such as the Seafood Expo Global / Seafood Processing Global, the most important event on sea products, previously held in Brussels, and the IAAPA Expo Europe, for amusement and leisure parks.
Other events which will make a return to the facilities include the Sónar and Barcelona Meeting Point.
